Wild Blue Dolphin is the site for a delightful apartment in St. Cyprien Sud,

25 minutes from Perpignan airport

Imagine lying on this beautiful 6 km sandy beach which is never crowded even in July & August. It has a beach bar and very good pizzas so……. with the sea lapping at your feet and a cool breeze from the Pyrenees to your right, what more could you want than a comfortable well-equipped apartment?

Your view facing east overlooking a quiet private marina

This charming first floor apartment, set in a peaceful location, sleeps two/four people.  It has a spacious living/dining room and a fully fitted kitchen (microwave; electric oven with rotating spit; induction hob; dish washer; washing machine; fridge and separate freezer) with a breakfast bar overlooking the view above.

The double bedroom faces a quiet square where the French residents play pétanque.  There’s a shower and separate lavatory and the sofa in the living room converts into a second comfortable double bed.

Arrival & Departure

Preferably Saturday to Saturday, arriving after 16:00 (4pm) and departing before 10:00 (10am). We do try to be flexible, due to increased ticket prices at weekends by budget airlines.  This depends on the time of year and other bookings.

Around & About

The nearest shopping centre is a five-minute walk away at Les Capellans.  There’s a small Casino mini-market where you can get most things (which opens from March 18 to October 31), a good poissonnier, a butchers, bakery, greengrocer, newsagents, a restaurant and some snack bars.  There is also a very nice little general store, which is open all year round called Mon Délice, which I prefer to support.  All the individual shop owners are most helpful and kind, as I struggle along in my poor French.

Shopping area five-minutes from the apartment

St. Cyprien Village itself, as opposed to the port, is inland and charming, a ten-minute drive away.  There’s a nice butcher/charcuterie behind the Marie and police station at the end of the square, closed on Mondays and for 2 to 3 hours from noon each day, but open on Sunday mornings, when the locals queue for newly spit-roasted chickens.  These may be ordered in advance from J. Claude Miquel, 2 rue Paul Fort, 66750 St. Cyprien Village. Tel: 04 68 21 39 15.  And there’s an interesting contemporary art gallery called Musée Desnoyer with paintings by Gauguin, Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Toulouse-Lautrec and others.

St Cyprien main port                      Mural by Desnoyer in St Cyprien Village                      Night time in the port

There’s an excellent market by St. Cyprien Plage every Friday, also on Tuesdays from June to September.

A Lidl supermarket opened a couple of years ago, though quite basic in the produce it sells, it is the nearest large store.  If you have a car, Carrefour is situated in a large shopping complex, and well worth visiting for a major shop.

There is a bus service through the vineyards and country villages into Perpignan and, in high season, there’s also a bus service down to Collioure, through Port Vendres and Banyules-sur-Mer. During the off-season buses run on Tuesdays and Fridays to the charming inland village of St.Cyprien, and to the 6km beach, which is a 10-15 minute walk.  Timetables and much more, can be obtained from the Office du Tourisme in the main port, which is worth visiting on your first day. There may be timetables left in the folder in the apartment, together with other brochures about the surrounding villages and countryside.

There are several large equestrian centres near the apartment.  Bicycles can be hired from shops advertising Velos Logement.  Sailing and many other water sports are also available.

Le Jardin des Plantes, which is opposite the entrance to Port au Prince, beside the Grand Stad is well worth a visit.  A large, very peaceful garden with lots of interesting trees and plants including a fine display of roses if you’re there at the right time of year – May/June.  White peacocks flaunt their beautiful plumes for the cameras!

Water lilies in  Le Jardin des Plantes                                     Mr & Mrs Peacock strutting their ‘stuff’

If you don’t care for sand and salt water, there’s an Olympic size indoor swimming pool in St. Cyprien Village.  Also, Aqualand Water Park, left of the main entrance to Port au Prince, has outdoor pools, water shutes and other aquatic games. Grand Stade is directly opposite the entrance to Port au Prince, has tennis, squash, and badminton courts plus fitness classes. A 27-hole golf course lies between St. Cyprien and Canet.

There is no phone in the apartment but there are public phone boxes 100 yards to the left of the entrance to Port au Prince and another on the right at Les Capellans.  Public phones in France take cards (not coins), which you can buy on the ferry, at the airport or any newsagent or post office.

A wealth of history lies in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.  Roman monuments, Greek ruins, medieval castles and ancient villages are set amidst a patchwork of vineyards, farmland, mountains and plateaux.  There are so many interesting places to see and things to do, too numerous to mention, but just 20 minutes along the coast road towards Spain is Collioure, the ancient Phoenician port, re-discovered by Impressionist artists, Matisse and Derain in 1905.  It was here that Winston Churchill first tried his hand at painting, so inspired was he by everything he saw.  With its magnificent castle, 12th century church, museums, galleries and many restaurants, Collioure is one of the highlights of this fascinating area. Further down the coast towards Spain, Port Vendres is well worth visiting for the fresh fish market and many good restaurants.

The charming mountain village of Ceret, with its excellent modern art gallery lies further into the Pyrenees.  It is also worthwhile exploring the Languedoc-Roussillon region on the Internet, before you leave home.

If researching the area on the Internet, you will find several villages named St. Cyprien; to differentiate itself from the rest, we are Saint Cyprien 66750.

Visitors-Book Comments

Here is a small selection of written comments from the visitors-book:

“Another wonderful 10 days – our 5th year! Phil & Laura did tube rafting near Ille-sur-Tet, good fun & inexpensive.  Wine tasting at Torreilles, accompanied by tapas – a great evening had by all.  Always something new to explore. Hope to be back again next year.

Phil, Heather & Laura, West Midlands (August 2010)

“The whole region is fascinating – fabulous beaches, great restaurants, very friendly and helpful people and a delightful, exceptionally well equipped apartment to experience it all from.  We look forward to our next visit”

William, Rosie & James, Guildford (July 2010)

“Thank you for a wonderful 12 days in your superbly equipped apartment – you’ve thought of everything for our comfort & enjoyment. We hired bikes, cycled to Argeles & were delighted to find 16’ Hobie Cats & had a great sail.  The views are gorgeous, especially the reflections at sunset – we’ll be back”.

David & Sue, Buckinghamshire (June 2010)

“We came across a lively street market in Argeles-s-Mer on Wednesday – very friendly & would recommend it. Castlenou was beautiful in the snow the restaurant “D’Ici et d’Ailleurs” the prettiest & best food ever.

Chris & Tim, Monmouth (December, 2009)

“A wonderful time in your apartment.  Beautiful Collioure….most recommended! A truly memorable way to spend our wedding gift money. Thank you for all your insights & helpful hints. We’ll be telling our friends.”

Amy & Siôn, Wrexham (August 2009)

“Another enjoyable 2 weeks.  The apartment and view are second to none. Our 3rd visit. Thanks Josephine”

Neil & June, Staffordshire (July 2009/2010 + booked 2011)

What a wonderful week we’ve had – wall to wall sunshine – great food – great wines and our highlight was Collioure and a trip on the little train up through vineyards to Port Vendres and back – best 6½ euros I’ve ever spent – sad to be going home; it’s flown by this week – but as Annie says ‘we’ll be back’. Thanks for the stay in your beautiful little bijou residence Josephine.”

Roger & Paula, West Yorkshire (September 2008)

“We have enjoyed our holiday cycling and exploring the local area of St. Cyprien, Canet and Argeles (covering 106 miles in total).  It was nice to return, after lovely days out, to this cosy, comfortable apartment.  As has already been said by others, we will miss the lovely view. Thank you Josephine”

Hilda & Ron – Northumberland (September 2008)

“Our first time staying in St.Cyprien and we enjoyed it immensely.  Les Capellans is a delightful area with everything you need within walking distance.  We particularly enjoyed our evening walk in the tropical gardens (Le Jardin des Plantes).  We have also enjoyed the wonderful fish from the local Poissonier.  Thank you Josephine for a wonderful holiday”

Wendy & Godfrey – Cambridgeshire (August 2008)

“Just what we were looking for – a quiet, relaxing, chilled-out holiday.  Friendly neighbours, acres of beach, great food (try ‘Le Maillol’ at St Cyp. Plage).  Must book again for next year.”

Mr & Mrs H. – Dorset (September 2007)

“Our holiday here has been everything we hoped it would be, and more.  Never have we stayed in such a lovely peaceful place.  Maybe we have been lucky with the weather as the sun has shone all day, every day, and a breeze has kept the temperature just right. We rarely return to a holiday destination – always somewhere else to see – but this could well prove an exception.  Thank you.”

Mr & Mrs B. – Dorset (June 2006)

“We have very much enjoyed our short stay here, and are sorry to be leaving. The peace and tranquillity have been very soothing and the beach uncrowded and very clean. We have found everything we need and more in the apartment and such a superb view. A lovely area to explore and a wealth of restaurants to sample!”

Mr & Mrs S. – Hampshire (May 2005)
